Dr Stephen Barrattshaw

Dr Stephen Barrattshaw is a high performing NHS consultant psychiatrist and is very experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD in adults. He originally trained as a nurse and then completed his medical training becoming a consultant in 2020. He has worked in a wide range of specialities and has also been a Director of Medical Education for a large NHS Trust and a Clinical Director for Acute Mental Health for an NHS Wales Health Board. Relaxed, down to Earth but also rigorous and very patient-centred.

He is a Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist with an endorsement in Rehabilitation Psychiatry.

Dr Barrattshaw originally trained as a general nurse before medical school and since graduating as a doctor completed his specialist training whilst obtaining a Master’s Degree in Clinical Leadership and became an award-winning medical educator for his roles with The University of Cardiff and Swansea University medical schools as clinical lecturer and then psychiatry module director respectively.

Since becoming a consultant in 2020, Dr Barrattshaw has worked in psychosis, inpatient, and enhanced community services.

Alongside his consultant work he has served as Director of Postgraduate Medical Education for a large NHS Mental Health Trust.

He has worked as a consultant for a busy NHS adult ADHD clinic and worked remotely in the private sector assessing and treating adults with ADHD from across the country.

He prides himself on his laid-back, pragmatic approach and his ability to assess and treat individuals with adult ADHD alongside complications such as substance misuse, mood and anxiety disorders along with gender dysphoria and autism.
