Dr Stephen Hoole CPsychol., AFBPsS is a highly experienced HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist (Registration Number: PYL31252) with a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience from over 20 years in the healthcare sector in different roles.
He is a Chartered member and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and Professional Member of the Association for Counselling and Therapy Online.
Dr Hoole completed his doctoral training at the University of Leeds in 2014 and has since worked in both the NHS, charity and private sectors, gaining a wide experience of clinical and management roles.
Therapeutically, Dr Hoole specialises in working with longstanding anxiety, depression and relationship difficulties, helping clients understand how their past impacts the life they want to live.
He is trained to doctoral level in a variety of therapies; however, draws predominantly on psychodynamic approaches and attachment theory when working with clients. This means helping a person to look at how their early life experiences and relationships shape the ways in which they relate to themselves and others, and how this may be causing their problems.
Alongside this has been a longstanding special interest in neurodiversity, having begun his psychology journey working in a complex neurodevelopmental disorder service in the North East of England.
More recently he has been involved in the development of a specialist ADHD therapies pathway within the Priory and of course has continued to work with neurodiverse individuals therapeutically. His particular interest is in working with individuals who have been diagnosed with ADHD in their adult life, helping them develop an understanding of how ADHD has influenced and perhaps impacted their practical routines, emotional wellbeing and relationships over the course of their lives.
This may include working on anxiety and depression, or relational conflict, or on more practical solutions; people may wish to make adaptations in order to navigate the neurotypical world easier, or may wish to engage more with the parts of the neurotypical world that work with their neurodiversity, rather than against it.
Dr Hoole is approachable, empathic and works collaboratively with patients in order to understand their needs and help them work toward their goals in therapy.
